View from the Coop 11 X 14 Inch Oil Painting

This is an 11 X 14 inch oil painting of one of my hens.  Her name is Gracie and in this painting, she is checking out the landscape from inside the coop.  Gracie would not be seeing the sky in real life from inside the coop.  She would be staring at my house.

  1. Love seeing Gracie…and the rest of the brood. I’m so glad you used your talent to share her with us. I’ve been busy, busy, busy…trips to St. Joseph to help my sister, and today my daughter from California is flying back. So, my art is on hold for a while. The new business has been keeping me very busy, too. I’ve really missed having those quiet mornings when I could “make the rounds” and visit everyone’s art blog. I’m so out of touch with everyone. I really miss seeing so many great paintings and having so much artistic inspiration each day. Take care, and I’ll pop in to see your art!

    1. Hi Jusith. It is nice to hear from you. I hope your sister is improving. I’m glad you get to see your daughter! That will be nice for you and you two can cook some yummy stuff in that kitchen of yours…You cleaned off the table right? 😀

      1. Yes, the table is cleaned off. My art supplies are temporarily put away. 😦 It’s good to have a break, but I do miss drawing and painting. Today we’re driving to St. Joseph to visit my sister. She’s doing better now. They have her doing physical therapy twice a week. I hope that helps her regain some strength. Thanks for thinking of us!

        1. Hi Judith. I am glad to hear your sister is doing better and I hope you are having a good visit with your daughter. It is good to have a break and when you get back to painting, you will enjoy it even more.

    1. Thank you!

I really enjoy my girls. Yes, they are safe in their coop. They like getting to go out in the big yard too. I have 8 total. I had to crop two of the girls wings so they would stop trying to get out into the big yard…but they learned real quick after that when they smacked into the fence a few times and so I don’t have to do that anymore.

  2. Thank you Laura.

Yes, it is my draw a bird contribution. She lays brown eggs and likes sunflower seeds and taking dirt baths in the sun. I was looking through all my pictures of Gracie so I could paint her. I started my underpainting and all the sudden Gracie was in her coop which I thought looked kinda cool. I nixed the idea of painting from a photo and decided my imaginary Gracie would do just fine. I thought about putting chicken wire in the door, but it would ruin her view in this imaginary world of hers.

  3. Love seeing your little brood, Dawn! Yay, your Draw a Bird Day contribution, right? Love your colors and the light, I always love when there is light coming from a place of darkness, I think the sky outside is wonderful and I see it on her body, there’s a story there and I can feel it brimming! Thanks for sharing and please post a link to this in my comments so I don’t forget. Happy weekend to you and enjoy your beautiful birds! 💜
