Orange Poppies Oil Painting

This is a 14 X 18 oil painting of orange poppies.  This is very similar to some of the other poppies I have done except there is a more textured background and slightly different colors.  These poppies remind me of butterflies.  I am working on poppy technique.  It is such a pretty flower and I would like to paint it well.  Practice.  I am going to have a billion sunflower and poppy paintings by the time I feel like I can move on to something else.

  1. I’m sure I commented on these… they’re so gorgeous! My husband came in when I was making my comment, and I showed them to him — he was very impressed — and maybe I lost the comment. I just want you to know how gorgeous this painting is!

        1. You did and the funny thing is I wasn’t gonna post them. This post was resurrected from the trash because I wanted a record of my poppy progress and figured I needed to remember the good and the bad. I’m being brave. Taking lessons from this gal named Judith.

        1. Lolololol. I better come up with something. I KNOW I can do a screaming sunflower…my sister said my sunflowers used to look like mesmerized alien screamers.

    1. Thanks John. This one is from maybe a month ago and I am still evolving my poppy skills. I am still fiddling trying to see what I like and don’t like. Colors, texture, strokes. I have another one that will post next week that I did a few days ago. The style is a little different.
