Lotus Oil Painting

This is an 11 X 14 oil painting of two lotus flowers.  The colors are really pretty with the pinks/purples and greens.  This one is sold.

I didn’t realize that water lilies and lotus were so different.  Thick versus papery petals and leaves and sitting on the water versus feet above.  The lotus has papery petals and leaves and sits about two feet above the water.

  1. When I did a recent watercolor “dabbling” of water lilies, I wondered about the differences between them and lotus flowers. I put the thought aside, though, without following up on it and discovering the differences. I love your lotus. It’s not only inspiring, but educational, too. 🙂

  2. Beautiful flower paintings! I really like your style. There was one I saw earlier with sun flowers, poppies and the night sky. Beautiful! It reminds me very much of Van Gogh. Lovely work!

    1. Thank you so much. I appreciate that. I love Van Gogh..he broke all the rules and his stuff stands out like a sore thumb….but a beautiful sore thumb! Not to sound cliche, but he really is my favorite. I saw an exhibit of his stuff once years ago and I was just amazed. Up close, the paintings are a huge bumpy mess…step back and the magic happens! The color. Beautiful.

      1. Years ago, I saw a Van Gogh exhibit on loan to the art museum in St. Louis. Seeing his work up close was truly a breath-taking experience. That’s what I remember most… just being so awed by the beauty that I could scarcely draw a breath.
